WHAT WE DO
Estate Planning Made Simple.
We understand that plans change over time, so if you work with us to create your estate plan, we will conduct a complimentary estate plan review with you every 3 years!
HOW IT WORKS
Our Process.
❖
STEP #1
Book a peace of mind planning session with attorney Rachel Harris. Review your assets, debts and family situation, and decide which estate plan best meets your needs.
❖
STEP #2
Sign an engagement letter and provide a deposit, then the legal team will draft your plan and send to you for review before final signing.
❖
STEP #3
Meet the legal team to sign the final draft of your documents. The team will take the documents back, scan them to a flash drive, and prepare the final package for you.
Estate Planning FAQ
-
It's understandable that a high priority in many folks' mind is keeping things affordable. That is a value for us, too! That being said, "simple" is sometimes impossible, depending on your family situation. For instance, if you want to disinherit a child: not simple. If you have children from someone other than your married partner: not simple. If you have a cohabitating partner to whom you are not married: not simple. These are just some examples of common situations that render your estate plan more complex than others. If you want to attempt to create an estate plan with these complexities through low cost online options, they are always available, but keep in mind: you get what you pay for. Rachel is committed to making sure that even if her estate plans are not the "cheapest" alternative you will find anywhere, they hold substantial value in exchange for their cost.
-
We do not publish the cost of estate plans not because we are trying to hide them, but because there are too many variables that affect the cost of an individual estate plan. Things such as complex family structures, business interests and multiple real estate holdings can impact the complexity, and thus the cost, of an estate plan. What Rachel does commit to is finding an estate plan that works with your budget and coming up with an affordable plan that suits your financial needs.
-
That depends on a lot of different things. For the cost of a peace of mind planning session, Rachel can review your current estate planning documents and advise on ways to simplify things upon your incapacity or death that may work with your existing documents, depending on your circumstances.
-
Rachel's firm generally asks for 30 days after the initial meeting to prepare your documents for review, then allows you 30 days after receiving the documents before scheduling a signing, for an approximate 60 day turnaround time. This amount can be shortened if you have particular family circumstances that warrant haste.
-
Rachel can travel within a 15-mile radius of Pocomoke, City Maryland. For visits within a 5-mile radius, there is no charge. For visits further than five minutes, Rachel reserves the right to charge a travel fee due to the additional time, but will consult with you beforehand to make sure that it is acceptable for you. Rachel also offers zoom and phone calls in lieu of in-person appointments, if you prefer.

Every great team is made up of great people. At the Shore Lawyer, in addition to our lawyer, Rachel, you will also likely come in contact with the following staff:
Faith Elliott answers the phones, schedules meetings and prepares the estate planning binders for pickup. She also attends the signings and serves as a witness.
Sarah Hensley is our drafting paralegal. She reviews the notes that Rachel takes at the meetings and utilizes our Wealth Counsel system to create drafts for Rachel to review before sending to clients.
Marci Busick is a paralegal who will reach out with follow-up questions that may arise in the design process, after the initial meeting.
Ruth Hensley is our gracious host (and Rachel's grandmother), who has agreed to let us utilize her beautiful home office until the completion of "the Landing" in downtown Pocomoke (currently estimated for December 2025 opening). She will greet you at the door, offer coffee or water, chat with you while Rachel prepares for the meeting, and also assists as a witness with signing.
