Let’s talk about your kids.
A lot of people’s estate plans primarily include leaving their assets to their kids. Oftentimes, people will name the kids payable on death beneficiaries so that at the time of your passing, a check gets cut to your kids with the contents of that account.
Sometimes, this happens without incident. But other times, this causes problems you may not have thought about. Let’s say you name your kids in 2007, while your child is in a happy, healthy marriage. Now let’s say you pass away in 2038. And by that time, your child’s marriage has taken a sudden turn for the worst. If they were to receive a check at that point, in the midst of hashing out a divorce settlement, their spouse may have a claim to a portion of that money.
Imagine your child ends up receiving an asset based public benefit such as disability or food stamps- did you know that an outright payment during that time can not only cut off those benefits, but if it isn’t handled precisely with the agencies they are receiving from, can cause them to have huge overpayments owed to the government, and normally not until all the money you sent them is gone!
What if your child has hit hard financial times and had to file for bankruptcy? If they get a large payment in the midst of that, that inheritance check could get eaten up by creditors and never see your child enriched in any way.
Finally, what if your child were to develop an addiction to narcotics? Sadly it happens to really good people. Nothing could be worse than giving an addict a large sum of cash- it could literally kill them!

RECIPES WITH RACHEL
Chicken Pot Pie Pasta
Make this comfort food classic recipe- perfect for cooler fall weather!
Ingredients:
12 ounces of egg noodles (wide)
2 tablespoons butter
1 large yellow onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
1 tsp. dried thyme
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
optional: fresh parsley, chopped (topping)
Instructions:
Cook the noodles according to package directions, then drain them.
Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic and mixed vegetables to the skillet.
Season vegetables with thyme as well as 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp pepper, stirring to combine. Cook the vegetables until the onions are soft, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the flour until the vegetables are coated. Add chicken brothand heavy cream to the vegetables and bring to a simmer.
Stir vegetables occasionally until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
Add cooked pasta and chicken to the vegetables and stir to combine. Season the pasta mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
