In this season of change for my career, I have been spending a lot of time reading books designed for entrepreneurial success. One of my favorite authors is Mike Michalowicz. In his book “Clockwork” he talks about mindsets for your company that will help it run efficiently and productively. (I highly recommend it!) He lays out the following step by step process.
First, you have to identify your “Big Bang”, or “what you plan to do with your one wild and precious life”. The “Big Bang” of the Shore Lawyer is to make the challenging death process a little easier for people’s loved ones. Death is hard, and there’s no way to keep it from being hard. But there is a way to make it “less” hard, and that is our goal at The Shore Lawyer. That is our “Big Bang.” Make the end of life transition process a little bit better for the people in our community.
The second step is identifying your company’s “Big Promise”. The Big Promise is “that thing you most want your company to be known for, that thing on which you stake your firm’s reputation, that thing your clients value most.” Our “Big Promise” at the Shore Lawyer is one word. Simplicity. Our goal is to take what could be a very complicated, messy process and make it simple. We recognize that there are times that legal stuff just can’t be “simple” and that’s okay too. Cause I have invested a large portion of my life understanding the complexities of the law so that I can take what would be a complicated concept and simplify it to help you understand.
Whether it is working through the process of probate after a loved one has died or creating an estate plan to avoid the complexities of probate and ensure your loved ones have immediate ability to step in should something unexpected cause you to be unable to manage your affairs, the Shore Lawyer is committed to inserting peace into the chaos of a difficult process and simplifying the circumstances that surround major life changes.
Our plan is to remain here on the Eastern Shore for the foreseeable future, so we can grow and learn together. We offer free estate plan reviews every three years for our clients where we update them with any changes in the law and they update us with any changes in family circumstances. And for my lovely subscribers to this Newsletter, we will keep you informed of any important changes to keep in mind as well!
